With a strong turnout of approximately 1,604 District Representatives (DRs), Tagum Cooperative (TC) proudly convened on March 30, 2025, for its highly anticipated 7th Annual Representative Assembly (ARA) at the DavNor Gym, Capitol Road, Tagum City and via online platform.

Anchored on the theme “Building a Better World by Transforming Lives and Empowering Communities: A Legacy of Excellence,” the gathering touted the cooperative’s outstanding achievements and milestones for 2024, reinforcing its mission of uplifting members and communities.

The event commenced with a solemn Eucharistic Celebration officiated by Most Rev. Medil S. Aseo, Archbishop of the Diocese of Tagum. In his homily, he expressed gratitude for TC’s sustained growth and its unceasing commitment to cooperative ideals.

A vibrant parade of colors ensued, featuring bannerettes and flaglets from all TC branches and satellite offices. The grand entrance down the red carpet, led by TC’s management and officials, set an atmosphere of excitement and unity. Further amplifying the energy, dynamic performances from the Dance Theater Guild and TC Officers mesmerized the crowd with synchronized flag-waving, adding to the rhythm of the music.

The opening remarks of Board Member Dir.  Jose Alvic P. Suaybaguio put the event tone on the right note, where he conveyed his earnest appreciation to all members of TC for convening to commemorate such a milestone occasion as cooperative owners and to chart the future. He also reaffirmed that the theme of this year embodies the larger cause of enhancing the lives of all members through creating opportunities for personal development as well as collective growth. In his own words, “We need to ensure that the impact we have today will continue to inspire future generations.”

Cooperative federations and organizations were also given the platform to deliver their message of support to the event, both international and national. Asian Confederation of Credit Union President Younsik Kim extended his congratulatory message to TC for consistently providing outstanding services, efficient management, and governance, which translated to making the cooperative progress.

Following the congratulatory messages, Chief Executive Officer Juris D. Perez proudly presented a roster of financial highlights, reporting TC’s remarkable growth in 2024: Total assets surged to ₱17.304 billion from ₱14.239 billion in 2023. The highest net surplus in TC’s history, with a collection efficiency of 93.61%. Capital share grew from ₱5.357 billion to ₱6.731 billion. And an impressive net surplus of ₱1.553 billion.

A business assembly proper was then commenced, presided by the Chairperson of the Board, Dir. Rosamaria S. Torrejano. Key committee reports were presented, leading to the much-awaited elections.

Successful candidates who secured placement on the board were the following: Janet T. Matuguinas led the pack with an impressive 1,113 votes, followed closely by Jose Alvic P. Suaybaguio with 1,090 votes. Monica L. Salido claimed 1,082 votes, while Girly R. Fernandez secured 1,033. Ruben J. Reponte earned 951 votes, and Michelle B. Claridad rounded out the list with 919 votes.

For the Audit Committee, Phoebe Laine Dayo-Chinilla dominated the rankings with 770 votes and Neil Andre M. Buladaco with 751 votes. Meanwhile, in the Election Committee, Brenda T. Bayocot emerged as the decisive winner with an impressive 856 votes, leaving Erick S. Dalumpines in second place with 425 votes.

Excitement peaked as TC declared the Interest on Share Capital and Patronage Refund (ISCPR) of a whopping 25.03%, with 11.86% allocated for share capital and 13.17% for patronage refund respectively.

Adding to the celebration, a raffle draw brought joy to over 318 lucky winners, including three members who won ₱10,000 each, five members who received ₱5,000, ten winners of ₱1,000, and 300 members who took home ₱500 each.

In her final address, Vice Chairperson of the Board, Dir. Gertrudes L. Yap warmly signified her word of appreciation to everyone who contributed to the success of the 7th Annual Representative Assembly. She then highlighted that the members’ support has been instrumental in shaping the growth and resilience of  Tagum Cooperative.

Following the election results, the Election Committee shall be given sufficient time to scrutinize thoroughly and verify the results to guarantee accuracy and maintain the integrity of the process. Once the validation process is complete, there will be a formal oath-taking ceremony to officially induct the newly elected officials, thereby perpetuating its thrust for excellence, service, and cooperative principles.
