Tagum City, 23 Dec 2024 – In a historic move to improve environmental protection, Tagum Cooperative has officially partnered with the Tagum City Local Government Unit (LGU) to further augment its existing PET Bottle Bin Program through the EcoBins Project.

During a ritual Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signing rites at Energy Park, Apokon, in which Mayor Rey T. Uy was also present, Tagum Cooperative expanded its drive towards sustainability by sponsoring the fabrication of five (5) additional PET Bottle Bins—referred to as EcoBins—whereby these will be turned over to the city through the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO).

The PET Bottle Bin Program was initially introduced by LGU-Tagum City as a proactive step in mitigating plastic garbage, especially polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles, which continue to litter public spaces and waterways. These trash bins, set up in optimal locations such as parks, bazaars, and transportation points, promote waste disposal and recovery of recyclable plastics.

Noticing the significance of the project, the Tagum Cooperative came in to lend support by donating additional EcoBins. This action enhances the capacity of the city to properly manage plastic waste and ensures more PET bottles are collected and recycled.

“Tagum City has been at the forefront of environmental action with its PET Bottle Bin Initiative. Tagum Cooperative is honored to support this project by expanding its reach through our EcoBins,” said Mayor Rey T. Uy during the signing ceremony.

Witnessing the signing of the agreement were the Board Chairperson, Dir. Rosamaria S. Torrejanio, and the Members of the Board of Directors, Dir. Nenita R. Malbas and Dir. Jose Alvic P. Suaybaguio.

Tagum Cooperative and LGU-Tagum City invite residents, businesses, and organizations to join the activity by properly utilizing PET Bottle Bins, promoting awareness of proper waste management, or devising other ways of contributing to environmental sustainability.

With continued teamwork and commitment, Tagum City will be a model of environmental conservation in the region, proving that cooperation leads to substantial change. Angenel Clariz R. Jacinto
